How to Choose the Right Coffee Table for Your Space

A coffee table might occupy a relatively small part of a room, but its proportions can change how the entire seating area feels.

Start with the sofa. A table that is too small can feel disconnected, while one that is too large can make the centre of the room feel crowded. Look at the width and depth of your seating arrangement rather than choosing the table in isolation.

Height matters too. Lower designs tend to sit naturally alongside deeper, contemporary seating, while taller tables can work better with more upright sofas. Comparing the table height with the seat height is a useful starting point.

Then consider the space around it. Leave enough room to move comfortably between the table and surrounding furniture without creating so much distance that the arrangement loses its connection.

Finally, think beyond measurements. A solid marble or wood table will have greater visual weight than a glass or open design of the same dimensions.

The right coffee table is not simply one that fits. It should feel proportionate to everything around it.
